Construction of seawalls

KOCHI: A review meeting chaired by Water Resources Minister N K Premachandran observed that the state had spent only 12 percent of the amount allotted by the Central Government for constructing seawalls as part of the tsunami rehabilitation programme.

The meeting which evaluated the tsunami rehabilitation work at the Collectorate blamed the contractors for their failure to complete the work in time.

As the state couldn’t utilise the fund properly, the Centre’s future fund allocation for the purpose will be reduced.
